White Tiger Kenpo
The White Tiger system delineated from traditional Chinese Kenpo in the 1960s. Since then it has continued to evolve until it developed its own unique look and style. While still maintaining the quick flowing hand techniques that Kenpo systems are known for, the White Tiger system incorporated additional kicks into the system to balance out the use of hands and feet and has put a greater emphasis on the application of speed, power, aggression and mechanical refinement.
The White Tiger system is designed for street application with an emphasis on addressing the targets, options, and situations not allowed in combat based sports. The techniques taught in this system are principal based instead of technique based which allows the practitioner to modify the material to suit their needs.
Kenpo is best described as a logical and practical approach to self-defense. It is neither hard nor soft, but a well-balanced system of both. Kenpo is fluid with continuous and rapid motion, graceful yet extremely devastating. Kenpo is also a blend between Japanese (Karate and Jujitsu) and Chinese (Kung Fu or Chuan Fa) martial arts.
The generic nature of the term combined with its widespread, cross-cultural adoption in the martial arts community has led to many divergent definitions. The word Kenpō translates thus: “Ken” meaning ‘Fist’ and “Po” meaning ‘Method’ or ‘Law’ as in ‘Law of gravity’, a correct interpretation of the word Kenpō would be ‘Fist Method’, the same meaning as ‘Quanfa’. However, it is often times misinterpreted as ‘the Law Of The Fist’, which appeals to those looking for a more ‘imposing’ or aggressive sounding name.
